Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. CBCT allows your endodontist to visualize your tooth and surrounding structures in a 3 dimensional manner.  Your doctor may use this technology to produce three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth, hard tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan.  Some of the benefits of CBCT imaging include, but not limited to: Visualization of blocked canals, evidence of fractures, location of root resorptions and better preparation for apical microsurgery.

This procedure requires little to no special preparation. Please tell your doctor if there’s a possibility you are pregnant. You will be asked to take off any jewelry on your head and neck region. You will be adequately shielded with a special apron for this imaging.
